Le Rules of le Kickball

Prequisites: A positive ‘tude and a sweet outfit.

Most WAKA Kickball Rules apply

  •

Le Kickball Official Rules

A positive attitude and a sweet outfit required.

Regulation Games

  • Games are a maximum of 7 innings or 60 minutes, whichever occurs first.
  • No new innings may start after 60 minutes.
  • Games can end in a tie during the regular season.
  • Post-season games have no time limit and must have a winner.
  • Rochambeau (rock-paper-scissors) will determine home/away before each game.
  • A minimum of 2 referees is required per game. The home plate umpire calls all balls and strikes. The second ump is at First Base and records the score and innings. When available a third ump is at Third Base. No arguing balls and strikes.
  • Slaughter Rule:
    • If a team leads by 10 or more runs after the 2nd inning, they may score a maximum of 4 runs per inning until the deficit is reduced to fewer than 10 runs.

Pitching, Catching, and Fielding

  • Maximum 10 players in the field; minimum 8 to play (at least 4 of each gender).
  • Teams must have a pitcher and catcher.
  • No player may be in front of the diagonal line from 1st to 3rd base before the ball is kicked. Pitchers must remain fully behind the infield diagonal between 1st & 3rd until there is contact with the ball. Infringement resulting in a fielding advantage = kicker awarded first base.
  • No part of the pitcher’s front foot may be in front of or across the front edge of the pitching strip prior to contact by the kicker.
  • There are 4 outfielders. Outfielders must remain in the grass until the ball is kicked.
  • Catchers must remain fully behind the kicker and outside the kicking box until the ball is kicked. Infringement resulting in a fielding advantage = kicker awarded first base.
  • No intentional face shots. If a runner is hit in the head or face by a thrown ball (unless sliding), the runner is safe.
  • Interference rules:
    • A fielder blocks a runner’s path while not playing the ball.
    • A runner prevents a fielder from playing the ball.
    • Non- fielders affecting play.
  • Interference penalties:
    • Offense: Runner out, others return to previous bases.
    • Defense: All runners advance to the base they were headed for.
  • Defensive players must attempt to catch fly balls. Intentionally dropping a fly ball = rekick.
  • No leading off or stealing. Runners must tag-up on caught fly balls.

Kicking

  • Kicking order set before game start.
  • All Fielders must kick. A player who does not kick shall not play!
  • Any order permitted; no gender alteration required; order of kicking is set for the entirety of the game.
  • If a kicker is injured, their spot is skipped.
  • Kicking out of order = automatic out.
  • Bunting is legal.
  • A kick occurs when the ball is contacted by the foot or leg below the hip.
  • A ball touching the kicker above the hip = dead ball.
  • In live play, a double touch of the ball by the kicker is an out.

 Running and Scoring

  • No leading off or stealing.
  • Runners may leave the baseline within 3-4’ to avoid a fielder.
  • Swerving, jumping, and sliding are permitted to avoid a ball.
  • When a Live ball makes contact with a runner in fair territory is an out unless they are safely on a base.
  • To advance after a caught fly ball, Runners must tag up.
  • Once the ball is controlled near the pitcher’s mound, the play is over.
  • For a runner to advance to the next base as the pitcher takes control of the ball the runner must be more than halfway to the next base.

Strikes

A strike is:

  • Any part of the ball crossing through the strike zone. See the diagram below.
  • An attempted kick and miss.
  • A foul ball on strike 1 or 2.
  • 4 fouls total = strikeout.

  • Four balls = walk to first base.

 Post-Game & Sportsmanship

  • Team captains sign score sheets after each game.
  • Opposing team awarded 0-3 sportsmanship stars.
  • Sportsmanship ratings affect playoff seeding.
  • Teams forfeiting 3+ games may not be invited back.
  • Referees may eject players for the night for unsportsmanlike behavior.
  • League commissioners handle any player bans.

Reminder:
Trash talk is allowed if clever and within the Le Kickaball Harassment & Misconduct Policy.

  •
  • Any player who behaves in an unsportsmanlike manner may be asked to leave for the night and return next week.  Consistent unsportsmanlike behavior could result in a ban from the league.  Decisions to have a player leave for a night can be made by refs.
